I write about digital media for the Columbia Journalism Review. I'm an expert in stucco, a veteran in love and an outlaw in Peru (via bit.ly/2DhVY0z)
Everyday conundrum: Trump does/says something dumb (Greenland, etc). How much attention should the media give this? What is the larger point? Is it just a sideshow? And if so, is ignoring it the right response? Also, game theory (i.e., others will almost always cover it)

My recommendation was "when in doubt send it to the gaslight desk." https://twitter.com/jayrosen_nyu/status/1153058258896207873

This policy is fraught. Arguably, American journalism during the 2002-2003 run-up to the Iraq war as mostly state media. Who pays the journalists is an indicator, but not necessarily the reality of who's exercising editorial influence/control. And of course, there's Fox "News" --

Twitter says it will no longer accept advertising from state-owned news agencies, after complaints about promoted tweets from Xinhua that misrepresented the protests in Hong Kong https://twitter.com/ColinCrowell/status/1163516125143060481

I think we can all agree commercialized state actor misinformation is best kept to Facebook.
I don't talk a lot about personal improvement-type things on here, but training myself to nap for 20 minutes changed my life more than just about anything I can think of. Even better is the coffee nap (drink an espresso then nap for 15-20 minutes). Highly recommended https://twitter.com/acsifferlin/status/1163476725080240133

You needed training to ... nap?

Well, yes. When I tried to nap before I would sleep for hours and then feel terrible. Now I can nap for 15-20 minutes without needing an alarm

Did you ever think to set an alarm?

I did set an alarm -- but now I can sleep for 15-20 minutes without needing one. That's the "training" part

I admire a man who naps. Even if he required training. Goodnight, sweet prince.
